Inspired by the simplicity and functionality of the Shaker box I make these tactile oval wooden boxes in both traditional and contemporary designs. The English hardwoods I use are sourced from locally-grown trees in Dorset and the neighbouring counties.
These beautiful native timbers are supplemented by specimen trees from arboretums such as Heligan, Westonbirt, Stourhead and Kew, which are felled as part of their sustainable maintenance programmes.
The principle of Shaker design and ethics captivated me some years ago and I aim to remain true to these minimalist principles and innovative designs as I develop items for everyday use. I maintain the Shaker hands-on approach, processing the timber myself, from tree trunk to finished box. The Shakers paid careful attention to the quality of all their work and I hope to continue in their tradition in everything I make.
Over the years I have expanded the range of products I make to include shelves, coffee tables along with a range of tools for knitters and stitchers.
